Splash of tan.

Its Friday and I am ready for the weekend ahead. It is the first time since New years eve that my husband and I have had the chance to go out, so I am looking forward to the wedding reception that we have been invited to on Saturday and gives me a chance to show you what a like to wear when I go out in the evening.
I have mentioned before that if I get an outfit in my head that I want to wear then not much will get in the way of that. Today is probably one of those days as my lovely husband has bought me a few sale items from one of my favourite online shops www.my-wardrobe.com and included in them was a pair of grey coated skinny jeans from 7 for All Mankind and I can’t tell you enough how comfy they are. Jeans are a pain in the neck to find for me being 5ft 11” and not a fan of showing my derriere to the world when bending over, so buying a pair online usually results in a boomerang action for the delivery guy. So I obviously wanted to wear these jeans as soon as possible and had already planned today's outfit…The weather however had decided to go bitterly cold with biting winds and torrential rain.
Undeterred I have worn my new fab jeans, a thin T-shirt and equally thin cardigan/jacket. Its a good job that I am a Northern lass and years of going for a night out in the snow with nothing more than a tiny dress ( in my younger days) has obviously paid off!

So I love teaming tan accessories with greys, I really like the look of the colours together and I think a nice tan leather bag is instantly classy. So out came my ever classic Mulberry Bayswater in tan brown and matching Mulberry ankle boots. This bag certainly gets better with age and will be one of my favourite bags for a long time to come.
I have also worn this very versatile knitted jacket from Maison Scotch and a plain grey t-shirt.
I hope you like the look.
I will make my next outfit post probably on Sunday as I want tommorow’s outfit to be the evening one.

So have a fantastic weekend. Let me know if you are doing anything exciting.

Take care

Amanda

Whats black, white and red all over?

When will I ever learn that Prosseco on a school night is bad, bad, bad?? Until the next time probably!
So feeling a little bit “tired” this morning and looking out of the window to see a cold and wintery day, it was all about warmth and comfort dressing today.
I had little Charlie with me today so it was the obvious choice to wear my new NB trainers. I have worn them once before with leather trousers and cream Zara coat ( Winter picks and new kicks) but today I styled them with my Topshop high waisted kirsten jeans ( my favourite jeans EVER) and my chunky Zara jumper which has lovely big cuffs on the arms and when pulled down under a jacket looks really nice and can soften the look of a biker jacket.
I also wore my Louis Vuitton Scarf in red leopard print, I have one in the brown leopard print aswell and between them I could probably wear them with any outfit.
I hope you like how I have worn the NB trainers. How are you styling them if you have a pair?

At the other end of the scale I am awaiting (patiently) for some gorgeous DKNY shoe/boots to arrive, which I cant wait to show you. I have bought them direct from DKNY, because they were half price from there and in the UK they are still full price every where. I am so thrifty!!! ( sniggers from my family).

What do you think??
I think they are amazing and the options of outfits are endless, I think they will look fab with kick flare skirts, leather trousers and skinny jeans.

What is on your wish list at the moment?
It is Valentines day soon , so dont forget to leave that list laying around :)
Take care

The Futures Bright…..

It has been a very emotional day for me. Although it has been over 18mths since Jack was diagnosed ( Heartbreak , hopes and dreams), we still live with the complications the operation and the tumour have left behind. I can go a couple of weeks without any tears but then all of a sudden I can become overwhelmed like a tsunami of emotion just going over me.
Writing this blog however has been totally amazing and is almost like therapy! I can focus energy on writing about things I have a passion for, namely fashion and I am loving it so much.
So when this wave of emotion hit me this morning while ironing Jacks clothes I quickly brushed myself off , put on my favourite clothes and thought about what I would write in my blog.  Before I would of dwelled on it for the whole day, but now I feel I have something to concentrate on other than being a worrying mother.
I felt like a huge pop of colour boost ( I get this from time to time) and what better boost than my gorgeous Mulberry Bayswater in the most eye catching bright orange teamed with my orange and red Alexander McQueen skull scarf. Because after all.. THE FUTURES BRIGHT….

Take care

Grey’s, pastels and pearly whites

“Your never fully dressed without a smile”….. Well that's how the song goes, so today I swallowed my nerves and went for my teeth whitened.
I was a bit apprehensive after over hearing a conversation at the school gates, where apparently a girl had gone for her teeth whitened and  they were great and blindingly bright, but when she went home and bit into an apple her teeth EXPLODED! Yikes! I did mention this to the teeth whitening guy and he looked at me as if I was a dumb blonde! The cheek.
Anyway things are good so far my teeth lightened 10 shades ( they were very subtle shades) and as yet I have not attempted an apple.
My choice of outfit for this milestone occasion was a mixture of greys and pastel, wearing my lovely peachy pastel French connection jumper over a silk cream French Connection Blouse, grey Topshop skinnies and scarf, grey Vivienne Westwood coat and Zara boots and necklace.
Extremely pleased I had layered up, as the heating had packed up at the clinic and I was sat freezing for an hour looking like an extra in Wallace and Gromit.

Hope you like the outfit. I have put a picture on at the end of my before and after teeth. What do you think?  Rylan eat your heart out.

Until tomorrow,
Take care

Knee highs, faux fur and a fright!

Wow, what an eventful day today!
It started out the usual chaotic Monday morning. As soon as my eldest two were packed off to school it is my time with 3yr old Charlie.
He always decides what we are going to do for our day out together and today he wanted to go to the Lego shop and out for lunch. Fantastic.
So I chose to wear my favourite black French Connection dress and Kurt Geiger over the knee boots, new Zara cream coat and faux fur scarf.
Lego chosen and happy with his purchase Charlie chooses McDonald's for his lunch…..Great.. coffee for me then. Half way through his chips Charlie grabs my arm face white and eyes bulging. He is choking. The panic in his eyes was awful. I screamed “Charlie” threw him over me knee and whacked him hard on his upper back. Thankfully it worked, but we were both in a bit of shock. What amazed me more than anything else was that in a busy place, nobody even flinched. What is happening to us? I would check the child ( and the parent) was ok. It really concerns me that nobody seems to care about anybody else anymore, and would rather choose to ignore anybody in need of help.

So Charlie wanted to go straight home so I could build his Lego toy for him.
Sat building his Lego I smiled to myself, it was only 1.30 and already I had been the kids alarm, chef, bag packer, fashion blogger , taxi, shopper, life saver and Lego builder. I had promised Spencer ( 7yr old) that I would make him some cupcakes, so I still had baker, cleaner , bather, homework helper and story teller to do.
MUMS ARE SUPERHUMAN!
And to do all this in a fabulous dress and over the knee boots surely deserves a glass of wine :)

Tuxedo and Tartan

The weekend seems to be over as soon as it starts and Sunday is by far my most favourite day in the week. As I have mentioned before its family catch up time at a gorgeous restaurant near to our family home.
Everyone who goes seems to get quite dressed up (even the children) and it is a really lovely relaxed atmosphere.
I felt a bit rebellious today though for some reason and decided to dress up my skinnies (Shock horror), I do feel that you can look smart in jeans and my skinny jeans, tailored jacket and scarf are my uniform as I have mentioned before, it is my comfort zone and feel good outfit and when in doubt that is what a reach in my wardrobe for. What is your feel good outfit ? and how do you mix it up?

I am going to a wedding next Saturday, which is always a good excuse to get dressed up, so I will be blogging my outfit options next week to get your opinions. I have seen an absolutely gorgeous cream Amanda Wakely dress which is cut to perfection but I have been told to wear cream or white to a wedding is total sacrilege and I would be stoned in the square at dawn. Really??? Even just for the evening reception? Please let me know , so I can avoid any unwanted brutality.

I hope you all have a fabulous evening and until tomorrow, take care.

Slip-on Virgin

I am like a child sometimes, especially when I get something new. I have to wear it as soon as is physically possible and weather, environment, occasion or catastrophe would not deter me in doing so.
I have been like it from a very early age along with buying things I really really “need” and making do with the wrong size just to get them.
I have early memories of squeezing my feet into some beautiful shiny black patent shoes as a child and telling my mum they were absolutely fine and trying not to wince when I had to do the obligatory walk up and down the shop floor.
I am still that girl and stupidly will persevere great pain in shoes much to small if my size can not be found in this galaxy.
My fab new slip-on’s which I purchased only yesterday were inevitably going to get an outing today and lucky for me ( and my feet) were in the correct size. Phew!
As I mentioned yesterday I have been contemplating some slip-ons for a while and now I have some I would like them in every print, colour and material possible… I love them.
These croc leather ones I am wearing are from Kurt Geiger and they have some lovely ones.
Also Topshop have some great ones that look like the checked Celine ones and are only £20, so they are worth checking out.

See what you think and let me know if you have purchased any lately.

I have champagne, choc’s and The Voice waiting for me… so until tomorrow have a great night.

Creature Comforts

It has not gone unnoticed that I am partial to a bit of leopard print, but only in moderation of course.
I have leopard print shoes, scarfs, blouses, jumpers, bags and underwear but I like to think I wear it in an “acceptable" way. I think most women have a long love affair with the leopard print and most men don’t seem to like it, ( but what women ever dressed for a man anyway?)

So today out came my Louis Vuitton scarf, which to say I have had my wear out of it would be an understatement. When I purchased this beauty I think I wore it with every outfit, every day for months.
It is a print that goes with most things so I was determined to get my monies worth.

I have had a day out with my mum today which was great and I have purchased my first pair of slip-on shoes. They have been on my fashion radar for some time now and today I took the plunge and got some black croc leather ones. I was going to get some ………….Yes, leopard print ones, but felt that I needed to ease myself in gently to the “slip-on” world and so black ones it was. I will probably be modelling these over the next couple of days.

These are the ones that I didn’t buy! But thought I would show you the leopard print ones

What do you think to the new craze of slip-ons? and which ones would go for?

I hope you all have a great weekend, whatever footwear you decide to go with.

Take care

Silk silps and chunky knits.

I am in love with the lace and silk slips and skirts in Zara and teamed with their chunky knits they add a real feminine element to your wardrobe and can be worn either on their own for a night out or over skinny jeans like I have worn today.
Zara never seem to get it wrong at the moment and with their fantastic prices it is definitely my go to store this season.
My favourite slips are the ones with the thick band of lace at the bottom, but because I was just out and about with my youngest boy today I wanted a more casual look so went for the plain black silk slip which has a lovely lace neckline, which can’t be seen because I wore Zara grey jumper over the top.

What is your favourite look that you seem to fall back on at the moment?
If you are anything like me you will have a wardrobe full of very similar things, when you find your style and what suits you , you tend to stick with that and buy the same sort of cut or colour in certain items. That's when accessories play a big part and you can mix it up with great shoes, bags, scarfs and jewellery.

On to my big GIVEAWAY and I have a gorgeous red heart Mulberry keyring for one lucky reader.
All you have to do is follow my blog and follow me on twitter @highonluxe1 and I will pick the winner a few days before Valentines day. Good Luck !

Take care

Paint splats, rips and perspex bits.

It has come to my attention that if I post an outfit post everyday,  then I need to get to grips with the art of "selfies “ and the 10sec self timer on my camera.
I must of looked hilarious this morning trying to prop the camera on anything that was about and run into position just as the camera clicked. When i looked at the pictures they were of various body parts, like the back of my head and a big face close up as I checked the camera!
Anyway I salvaged a couple of pics so I hope they aren’t too bad. I do promise as my blog gets more popular (fingers crossed) that I will get more professional pics done, but until then I will try my best.
I have just got to put this picture on because this about sum’s it up. The other day I asked my 13yr old to take I quick pick before I got in the car and just as he took it a little scamp appeared in the picture after letting himself out of the car,  just as I have got my serious photo face on…

It did make me giggle when I saw it.

On to today's outfit and I have put a bit of colour into it ( as promised).
I am wearing my favourite MCQ Alexander Mcqueen jumper , which reminds me of doing those paint butterflies at school, were you splat some paint on a piece of paper fold it in two and “voila” a lovely butterfly ?!?!
Talking of paint splats..The skinny jeans I am wearing today are actually jeans I have worn when decorating and have genuine paint marks, but I love this look so I did it on purpose, the rips are also DIY rips and now I think they are perfect.
All teamed with my gorgeous Kimberly Ovitz coat,  louboutin heels and Jimmy Choo colbolt blue perspex clutch and I would say colour is back ( well for today anyway)
So I hope you like the look and I recommend painting that back room this weekend in your favourite jeans..all in the name of fashion of course.

Take care

Wardrobe Staples

Hi Folks!

Hope you are all having a “ Terrific Tuesday” ( can’t get away from the naming day thing!)
It will soon wear off though so don’t worry.

I have been out for lunch today with my gorgeous big Sis so I wanted to be simple and classic in my favourite colours of course, black and cream. I promise it won’t be long until I throw some colour in there, so don’t adjust your screens just yet.

I have worn a cropped jumper from Topshop today but have styled it with a long shirt dress from Asos.
I absolutely love the cropped jumpers but obviously at 42 would look totally ridiculous (and be very cold) wearing it on its own. So ladies I would suggest to invest in one but only to be worn with long shirts or tops underneath, unless of course you are 20 and look like Rhianna.
Again I am wearing leather trousers from River Island, which I adore and they are a bit more “dressed up” than skinny jeans when you are going out for lunch.

What do you think of cropped jumpers? and how would you style it for your age group?
Let me know I would love to hear your comments.

Tomorrow I am writing about a fantastic GIVEAWAY I have planned for my followers so be sure to tune in. Until then …..Take care,

Amanda x
